With the best of intentions, it seemed like a fun idea for Assembil to create some sort of tasteful, Scandinavian-style decorations. But then this quickly became overtaken by the idea of creating “fashion baubles” – decorations and baubles inspired by iconic designers and collections.
So, for this year the inspiration was Comme des Garçons and the work of Rei Kawakubo. This has resulted in some colourful, but slightly surreal baubles inspired by Kawakubo’s penchant for new silhouettes, bold colours and subverted “feminine” detailing.
So here are the finished baubles, with full instructions in the following posts.
Enjoy!
Playful Star Decorations
Inspired by the heart logo used on the CDG Play collections, these cute little guys are a no-sew project that is mainly all about using your rotary cutter and a hot glue gun. Full instructions.
Lumps and Bumps Baubles
In hommage to Kawakubo’s Dress Meets Body, Body Meets Dress collection, these little baubles have got curves in all the right places. Full instructions.
Ribbon Baubles
These ribbon baubles take the idea of wrapping baubles in ribbon and makes it somewhat more… relaxed and chaotic. Go wild with a hot glue gun and some left over ribbon, then add on some extra embellishment. Full instructions.
